Remote Views [lockdown]

I have used the travel notebook form for fifteen years on train journeys between Leeds and London, building a series of several hundred drawings. Now the notebooks are the appropriate form for the imagination of places viewed from the hermetic space of lockdown. These are also meditative modes of address of situation, and the herald of a message that announces that there is never any distance in thought. The drawings are real ‘remote views’ and the titles come afterwards, arrived at through synchronicity, whether through reading a placename when opening a book, or hearing the name of a city in the lyric of a song. When I then google these ‘named’ places, I am often shocked to find an image corresponding with the drawing.
